What is the LifeLabs Class Action About? 


The LifeLabs Class Action alleges that LifeLabs was negligent in safeguarding customer personal health information, leading to a criminal cyber-attack and data breach. LifeLabs has denied these allegations. The Ontario Superior Court of Justice has certified the class action and approved a negotiated settlement. Class members include individuals in Canada who are living as of the date of Settlement Approval and are current or former users of LifeLabs services whose personal information was known to have been compromised during the data breach. This class action pertains to the data breach publicly disclosed on December 17, 2019, excluding any officer, director, or executive level employee of the Defendants.

Am I eligible to get a payout in the LifeLabs Class Action? 


Individuals who were LifeLabs customers on or before December 17, 2019, and were living in Canada as of October 25, 2023, are eligible to receive cash benefits from this class action settlement.


Is Proof of Purchase Required in Order to File A Claim? 


No, proof of purchase is not required.

How Much Money Can I Get? 


Each Class Member who completes a valid claim form during the claim period will be eligible to receive compensation of $50, up to a maximum of $150. The total payout depends on the number of claims filed and the legal fees and disbursements approved by the Court. The guaranteed amount to be paid by LifeLabs is $4.9 million, with the potential for an additional $4.9 million depending on the number of claims.


How Can I File a Claim? 


Class members may submit a claim for a portion of the Settlement Fund by visiting the claim administrator and filling out a claim form (linked below). To submit a claim, you will need to provide your name, address, telephone number, email, and Provincial Health Care Number. The claim period ends on April 6, 2024.
